Flame cutting, the opposite of water cutting

Flame cutting is to cut carbon steel with high temperature generated during the combustion of iron oxide. The design of flame torch provides sufficient oxygen for burning iron oxide to ensure a good cutting effect.Flame cutting equipment has low cost and is the only cost-effective means of cutting thick sheet metal, but it has its disadvantages in thin sheet cutting.Compared with plasma cutting, the heat affected zone of flame cutting is much larger and the thermal deformation is larger.In order to cut accurately and efficiently, the operator needs to be skilled in order to avoid the thermal deformation of the metal plate in time during the cutting process.

Cutting process

1. Check whether the work site meets the safety requirements, whether the rubber pipes and pressure gauges of cutting torch, oxygen cylinder, acetylene cylinder (or acetylene generator and temper preventer) are normal, and connect the gas cutting equipment according to the operating rules.
2. Before cutting, first pad the workpiece flat, leaving a certain gap under the workpiece to facilitate the blowing off of iron oxide slag.To prevent the operator from being burned by splashed iron oxide slag during cutting, shields may be added if necessary.
3. Check the air line by igniting the flame and adjusting the preheating flame properly.Then open the cut oxygen valve and observe the shape of the cut oxygen flow (i.e. the wind line), which should be a straight, clear cylinder with an appropriate length.Only in this way can the workpiece cut surface be smooth and clean with uniform width.If the wind is irregular, close all valves and trim the inside surface of the cutting nozzle with a needle or other tool to make it smooth.
4. Regulate the oxygen to the required pressure.For ejector-suction torch, the ejector-suction ability of the torch should be checked.To check, first pull off the acetylene intake hose and bend it up, then open the acetylene valve and the preheated oxygen valve.At this time, place your finger on the acetylene pipe connector of the torch. If your finger feels suction and can absorb on the acetylene pipe connector, it means that the torch has suction ability and can be used; conversely, it means that the torch is abnormal and can not be used, so you should check and repair it.

Factors Affecting Cutting Quality
1. Oxygen purity has a great influence on cutting speed, oxygen consumption and cutting quality during gas cutting.Reduced oxygen purity, slower cutting speed and poor combustion effect of metal in oxygen will certainly affect cutting quality.
2. Impurities and defects in metal chips Impurities in metal have a great influence on flame cutting. Some impurities even make metal unable to cut by flame.
3. Gas purity has little effect on cutting quality and cutting process, but impurities in gas will have some effect.
4. Cutting speed affects cutting quality. Flame cutting speed should be appropriate, neither too fast nor too slow.If cutting speed is too fast, dragging and cutting can not be made through, even boiling, burning out and cutting can be interrupted. Cutting speed is too slow, upper edge burns down, lower edge slag hangs heavily, cutting seam becomes wider and quality of cutting surface is also not ideal.
